Ethiopia has embarked on a process of reforming its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) System. Within the policies and strategies of the Ethiopian Government, technology transformation by using current international standards and international best practices as the basis, and, adopting, adapting and verifying them in the Ethiopian context. The new paradigm in the outcome-based TVET system is the orientation at the current and anticipated future demand of the economy and the labor market.

TVET program in Rehoboth Medical College

Based on the opportunity given by government to private higher educational institutions, Rehoboth Medical College begun TVET with four departments, namely:

  • Clinical Nursing
  • Pharmacy
  • Medical Laboratory
  • Midwifery with all qualifying students to Level IV
    • The prime objective of TVET program is to equip the learners with the identified competences specified in the EOS for particular professions.
    • The program is carried out as per the curriculum developed based on the EOS.
    • The curriculum gives details on the expected outcome, program content, and time duration, learning strategy, evaluation and assessment as well as on the resource conditions of the program.

    Currently, the college is offering training in three of the above departments, namely in clinical Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory. Graduates from Rehoboth medical college are highly competent as it could be evidently revealed from COC results given by neutral body, called Oromia center of competence (COC) and the rate of employability.

    The college is also selected for serving as center of Certification based on the investigation carried out to certify as qualified center and is fully authorized to facilitate the process of COC in cooperation with Oromia center of competence.
