About Us

Message from General Manager:

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Rehoboth Harme College

The Arsi Zone of Ethiopia has been a land, known since ages for its extreme valour, impeccable integrity, rich culture, pristine natural beauty and home to the World’s greatest runners and it the area where the first ever private Rehoboth General Hospital was established.

A decade after founding our Rehoboth General Hospital, during the 2000’s, several internal and external proposals were made for the opening of a Medical School as sister company. These proposals were prompted by an increasing flow of students coming to the Asella town to join higher education in pursuit of a medical education.

The Rehoboth General Hospital always felt that if a decision was made to open a Medical School, such one must provide the best medical education possible, with emphasis on global health, excelling in medical research and community engagement and, therefore, constitute a source of pride to its students, to the region and to the country.

When the Rehoboth Medical College (RMC) began to take shape 16 years ago, we started with a department of Nursing in Arsi, Asella and then added the long-established Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Technology departments a few years later.

Today we are one of the leading academic health science centers in the Ethiopia with three degree and 4 Technical and vocational Training programs. We employ nearly 500 people, have approximately 2,000 students and 100 faculty members, and garner more than 1 million in research grants and contracts annually.

Building on our education, research and community services achievements since 2020, including most recently our groundbreaking work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are launching several new initiatives in 2022 to address critical statewide, national and global health care needs.

We now have unprecedented opportunities to excel in education, research and community services in more and better ways than ever before. Our relentless curiosity, inter professional collaboration, leading-edge facilities, and purposeful inclusion of diverse perspectives and experiences give us an incredible advantage we can use to improve the health and well-being of people across the country of Ethiopia and around the world.

This year on the education front, we are developing three new programs to address ongoing health care workforce shortages: a doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry and Medical Radiology Technology programs.

We also are preparing for the launch of three new programs in the faculty of business and technology that will extend the reach of Rehoboth Harme College into the community to better prepare for future national holistic Economic development emanated from our mission statement. These programs are; Business Management, Accounting and Computer Science.

The stories of how we are progressing on our new and existing initiatives can be found on our website.

I am confident that together we will make great advances in year 2022 and beyond. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to furthering our mission, as we educate the next generation of professionals, investigate and solve critical problems, and build healthier and richer communities.
